On a walk, I picked up a piece of lichen-covered bark. From this, I did four studies (clockwise) continuous line, left-handed, detailed and a quick drawing. My favourite sketch is the one I did with my left hand, as it looks loose and free and I think because I couldn’t draw very straight lines it looks more woody and gnarled. My least favourite drawing is one that I spent the most time on as I tried to capture too much detail instead of loosely sketching. I love the depth of colour and pattern on the piece of bark, and with these line drawings, I wanted to capture the texture and shape of the lichen. I think the last study would lend itself to a print, as it is the most simplistic of the four.
